The Bhoi community is also known as Kewat. They are a complex and multi-faceted Hindu community.
Bhoi people can hold any number of professions. They can work at Hindu temples, own and cultivate farmland. Others run small businesses such as restaurants, fabric shops, and fruit and egg stalls. They also work for railways, state transport corporations, and state-run primary schools, and as carpenters, basket weavers, boatmen, and fishermen. There are some professionals and politicians among them. Kewat women are employed as domestic helpers, agricultural laborers, and basket makers while children work as cowherds and servants on annual contract. Some send their sons to work at tea stalls, garages or factories.
Weaving and similar arts are important in Bhoi culture. It is their way to express their identity as a community. Some of them earn a good living by selling these goods.
Bhoi homes often have an altar to Manasamata. Beside this, there are images of Khandoba and a few other Hindu gods and goddesses. Every family has a number of deities.
The Bhoi community needs to understand the centrality of Jesus Christ. They need to embrace him so they can experience life to the full.
Pray for the Lord to raise up a strong disciple making movement to saturate the hearts and minds of the Bhoi people throughout India.
