Introduction

If you were to purchase any sort of saddle or leather shoes in Nepal, northern India or Pakistan, chances are good that it was put together by a Mochi. The name "Mochi" comes from the Sanskrit mochika and the Hindi word Mojna which mean "to fold." While the Chamars would do the initial slaughtering and preparation of the cattle hide, the Mochis are the ones who typically do the finishing work on the leather items. Though Pakistan is a Muslim culture, it is heavily influenced by Hinduism. For that reason, communities like the Mochis that deal with dead animals have very low status. Educational standards are low for the Mochis.

Ministry Obstacles

No matter what country the Mochis live in, they have very little chance of hearing the gospel. That is especially true in Muslim Pakistan.

Outreach Ideas

Are there believers who appreciate leather goods who can befriend Mochis in Pakistan, and buy their goods? Hopefully there are believers who are willing to treat them as friends and neighbors, eventually winning the right to introduce them to our best friend, Jesus Christ.

Prayer Focus

There are no known believers among the Mochis in Pakistan. Pray that the Lord will make a way for them to respond to the Name of Jesus Christ. Pray that the Church will begin connecting with Mochi Muslims.
Pray for a harvest of souls among the Mochi Muslims that will result in a disciple-making movement and transformed lives.
