Most Vietnamese in Japan live in Tokyo and the Kanto region and also in Greater Osaka. They speak Vietnamese and Japanese. They are mostly Buddhists and also Catholics.
Many Vietnamese students came to Japan early last century. Many more Vietnamese now are refugees from the Vietnam War and Japan began to let them stay in the country from later in the 1970s. Vietnamese workers came to Japan in the 1990s as they could earn good salaries there.
It has been difficult for the Vietnamese in Japan regards education and finding work. The lack of being able to speak fluent Japanese has been a handicap to them. There are cultural difficulties too. There are famous Vietnamese people living in Japan.
Many Vietnamese refugees change to permanent residential status to be able to have a better life in Japan. Some bring their families to Japan in what is called chain migration.
* Scripture Prayers for the Vietnamese in Japan.
* Pray that the difficulties the Vietnamese are having in Japan will lead them to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that nominal Catholics be given a clear presentation of the gospel.
