The Kachari people live in Maharashtra and speak the local language, Marathi. A smaller number live either in Tamil Nadu or Karnataka. They are closely related to a group in Assam, in northeastern India.
The Kachari work in agriculture. The women are good at weaving. They have a council to look after their needs. The Kachari allow the bereaved and divorced to marry again. On the death of the father, the sons inherit the property.
Their religion is a mixture of local religion and Hinduism. Bihu is a spring festival. It is their main festival and they celebrate it along with their neighbors. They also celebrate a festival each April they call Taro Chira which is also very important.
The Kachari people need the hope, joy and peace that only comes from being submitted to Jesus Christ.
Pray that council leaders come to Jesus Christ and lead their people into a movement to Christ. Pray that Indian believers will faithfully pray for them and send workers to them. Pray for a spiritual hunger that will lead them to the blessings of Jesus.
