Who is an Arab? Arabs' physical, geographical, and religious aspects vary greatly, but the ability to speak Arabic and identification with the Arabic culture are probably the two most essential elements. Most of the Arabs in North Macedonia are from either Syria or Iraq. They are small in number.
For most of the Diaspora Arabs, there have been a greater variety of job opportunities. This has greatly aided their poor living conditions. However, it has also weakened their traditional family ties. There is greater freedom for women to leave the home, fewer arranged marriages, and less social pressure to conform to traditional religious practices.
One country seeing a growing presence of Arabs is North Macedonia, already a nation with a volatile mix of peoples and religions. With the rapid escalation of the radicalization of the young Islamic population, distrust abounds. Radical Islam is a new phenomenon in North Macedonia and is being closely monitored by the government. However, with the dispersion of Arabs to Western countries like North Macedonia, there comes the opportunity to interact with them and share the truth about Jesus and his love for them.
It was early in the seventh century that Mohammed first preached the tenets of Islam to the Arabs. His successors quickly spread the word of Allah far and wide. Wherever Arabs went, they left elements of their Arab culture, including their Islamic religion.
The historical link between Arabs and the Islamic religion is still very strong. Today, most Arabs are Muslims.
Arabs in North Macedonia need the opportunity to have a relationship with the only Savior, Jesus Christ. There are Macedonian believers who can reach out to them.
