The Krishnavaka live in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the two southernmost states in India. There are two sub groups among them; the Makkavali who speak, read and write in Tamil, and the Marumakkavali who do so in Malayalam.
The Krishnanvak work in cultivation and animal husbandry. Most of them are landowners. They have a council to look after their interests. The Krishnanvak have cross cousin marriages. They allow for divorce and remarriage. On the death of the father, the property goes to the sons among the Makkavali and more to the daughters among the Marumakkavali. The oldest son becomes the new family head. They have their children educated and use modern and traditional medicines.
Hinduism is their religion.
The Krishnanvak people need the transforming power of Jesus Christ so they can experience his spiritual, economic and social blessings.
Pray that the council leaders come to Jesus Christ and lead their community into a disciple making movement. Pray that gospel materials will become easily available to the Krishnanvak people. Pray for workers and intercessors. Pray for a spiritual hunger that will lead them to the only savior.
