Introduction / History

The Gondaru, which is the plural of Gond, are not the same people as the large Gond community who live in central India. The Gondaru speak, read and write in Kannada. They live mainly in Karnataka, but also in Goa.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They are not vegetarians and eat chicken, fish and mutton and as a cereal, rice. Sometimes they drink alcohol but not very often.

The Gondaru women wear black bead necklaces. They wear saris that are not of the usual style.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Gondaru people practice Hinduism, the ancient religion of India. Hinduism is a catch-all phrase for the local religions of South Asia, so it is very diverse. At the popular level, Hindus worship and serve the gods of the Hindu pantheon. They visit Hindu temples and offer prayers, food, flowers, and incense to their gods in hopes of gaining protection and benefits. They do not have a personal or familial relationship with their gods like Christians or Jews. There are other Hindus who are much more philosophical, especially among the Brahmins.

Almost all Hindus participate in yearly celebrations like Holi, the festival of colors and the start of spring / Diwali, the festival of lights / Navratri, the celebration of autumn / and Rama Navami, Rama's birthday.

What Are Their Needs?

The Gondaru people need to put their hope in the King of kings, realizing that he is the one who gives them worth and dignity.

Prayer Points

Pray that God will give the Gondaru dreams and visions leading them to Jesus Christ.

Pray that gospel materials on the internet will help lead them to salvation.

Pray for Gondaru disciples making more disciples who will be a blessing to their families.
