Introduction / History

Yes, there are Hindus who eat beef. They are the Arwamala people. Along with beef, they eat pork and mutton, though their staples are rice and other grains. Most of them live in India's southeastern state of Tamil Nadu, so they speak Tamil at home.

The most common job for the Arwamala people is either selling bundles of wood or working on someone else's farm as a laborer. Many of their children are employed as cattle herders by the Reddy people.

Though they are obviously not good Hindus, they dutifully worship village and family deities. Some have embraced Christianity, but not enough to bring them out of the unreached category.
