Benishangul is a region containing the "Rock of Shangul", a sacred stone. After several centuries of Arab Sudanese influence, the Berta are now mostly Muslim and many speak fluent Arabic. Due to their intermarriage with Arab traders, some Berta were called Witawit, meaning mixture. Even though they are mostly Muslim, they have religious specialists that have healing and divination powers, and who know how to deal with evil spirits. The Berta are farmers, with sorghum being their staple crop.
No scripture is reported as available in the Berta language.
There are many evangelical Christians in Ethiopia. Please pray for increasing numbers of missionaries to come from these believers who are committed to take the gospel to all of the unreached tribes in their own country.
There are Christian believers in the Berta tribe. Please pray these Christians will become firmly established in the faith, not wavering in their commitment to know and follow Christ. Pray for adequate supplies of clean drinking water and rainfall for the crops and livestock of the Berta tribe. Please pray also for rising literacy rates among the youth.
Scripture Prayers for the Berta, Benishangul in Ethiopia.
