The Dorla are a scheduled tribe who live in Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. They speak a dialect of Gondi; they are a subgroup of the Gond tribe. As a scheduled tribe, they have low status in Hindu society.
Their work is in cultivation and the women help with agriculture work. They also gather from the forest and raise livestock. They make baskets for themselves to use. They are non-vegetarians who eat pork but not beef. The Dorla are not well educated. They have a traditional council to look after their needs. They prefer to marry their cousins.
The Dorla people are officially Hindu, but they have their own traditional religious beliefs in supernatural powers and witchcraft. Some are Christians.
The Dorla people need to put their hope and faith in the only Savior, Jesus Christ, who came to give them life to the full.
Pray that the council leaders will come to Jesus Christ and open their community to a movement to Christ. Pray for spiritual openness. Pray for intercessors and workers.
