Introduction / History

The Tsum are also called Tsumba. They live in the northern Gorkha district near Tibet. Their ancestral home is the Tsum Valley in the Himalayan foothills. Their language, Tsum, is different than all others. This group lives only in Nepal.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Tsum families raise livestock like yaks, goats and sheep. Tsum farmers grow barley, wheat and maize. Rice does not grow well in their homeland.

They are also weavers who produce warm wool clothing.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Tsum are Tibetan Buddhists. The Tibetan form of Buddhism incorporates shamanism with Buddhist practices.

Their homeland has monasteries and pilgrimage sites such as Mu Gompa and Rachen Gompa.

What Are Their Needs?

The Tsum people need a John 10:10 blessing: The abundant life Jesus offers those who are willing to submit to his lordship.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Tsum culture to be renewed and enhanced by a work of the Holy Spirit and shaped into a God-centered and God-honoring mold.

Pray for the Holy Spirit to move among their family and community leaders to seek his face and enjoy his blessings.

Pray for the Lord to thrust out workers who will be compelled to nurture a disciple making movement among the Tsum people.

Pray that soon the Tsum people will have faith that will lead them to live honorable lives that will draw others to the savior.

Pray for spiritual discernment and a hunger for true spirituality.
