Introduction / History

Mongolian Americans are those who have whole or part Mongolian ancestors. This also includes peripheral Mongolian immigrants such as those from Inner Mongolia in China. Peripheral Mongols are those who do not live in the country of Outer Mongolia.

Some Mongolians came to America in the middle of the last century. Others came late 1990s and this century when Mongolians could legally emigrate. The traditional occupation of Mongolians in their native land is raising and taking care of animals. In the USA Mongolians must learn new job skills in their new modern, industrial nation.

A complete Mongolian Bible became available in 2019.

What Are Their Lives Like?

California has the largest Mongolian community in the USA. Many live in Oakland and San Leandro. Many also reside in Koreatown in Los Angeles where there is a Mongolian speaking church. Others live in Illinois, Virginia and Colorado.

When a Mongolian family arrives in the USA, they need a place to live. They need to enroll their children in school and find some type of employment. They often must work menial jobs as taxi drivers and in restaurants. Once the Mongolian adults become more proficient in English, they take better paying jobs. Parents dream that their children graduate from college and enter professions in medicine, science, law, and administration. They speak Mongolian at home and English at work or school. There is the Mongolian American Cultural Association that promotes Mongolian culture.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most Mongolians in the USA claim to be Buddhists. Their brand of Buddhism is heavily influenced by folk religion and animism. Some Mongolian who come to the USA become secular while others attend Buddhist temples on a regular basis.

What Are Their Needs?

Mongolians need help in learning English. They need help in finding jobs and in adjusting to American life. Most of all, Mongolians must hear the good news about Jesus Christ. He alone can forgive their sins and grant them eternal life.

Prayer Points

Pray that Christians in America will show the love of Christ in practical ways to Mongolians who migrate to the USA.
Pray that Mongolians would begin to read the Bible and develop an interest in spiritual things.
Ask the Lord to send workers to the Mongolian communities.
Pray the Lord would raise up a disciple making movement among American Mongolians in the next decade.
