Originally from the Sangir Islands of Sulawesi, Indonesia, some of the Sangihe Sangir have settled in the Davao region (formerly Southern Mindanao) of the Philippines.
Most of the Sangir are involved in fishing, hunting, farming, and forestry.
The Sangir were historically polytheistic, worshipping ancestors and inanimate objects. Islam spread among them in the 15th and 16th centuries, followed by Catholic missionaries in the 17th century, and finally Protestant missionaries. Today, the majority of the Sangir profess to be Christians but many continue to practice animism.
The Sangir need a clear presentation of the gospel message and workers who are willing to disciple them in the faith.
Pray for the Sangihe Sangir to become aware of their need for a Savior. Pray for the deception of animism to be exposed and for the Sagir to be set free from religious bondage. Pray for a church planting movement to sweep through Davao region.
