Rerau speakers live in Astrolabe Bay, about fifty kilometers (thirty miles) south of Madang Town, the provincial capital. Older generations speak their traditional language, but many young people prefer to use Tok Pisin. Thank God that the scriptures are available in Tok Pisin.
The Rerau people have some access to medical and other services in Madang Town. During the dry season, it takes about four hours to travel to Madang Town by road on a PMV (public motor vehicle). They can earn cash by selling food crops, betelnut, coconut, and livestock.
A high percentage of the Rerau people are Christian. Among them is a good sized Evangelical community.
Their roads are often cut by flooding during the wet season.
Pray that those who don't understand the Tok Pisin scriptures will be aided by those who do.
Pray for harmony and respect across generations.
Pray for their health and material needs.
