Maslam Kotoko is a language, not a specific ethnic group. This language is dying out and being replaced by Arabic.
Maslam Kotoko speakers live in Chad and Cameroon.
The Maslam Kotoko speakers are in the process of adjusting to speaking Arabic rather than their own language. Within a couple of decades they will likely be Arabized. Their grandchildren will probably not speak the Maslam Kotoko language.
To make matters worse, Kotoko people are often suspected of being dangerous witches who are greedy for wealth and power.
The Maslam Kotoko people are noted for embracing alternative forms of Islam, though they blend their Islam with animism, the belief in spirits that have power to bless and to curse. Their faith is mainly in these spirits, not Allah, the God of Islam.
The Maslam Kotoko people need to adjust to important changes. They can no longer put their identity in their old ethnicity, but they can put their identity in Christ, the King of kings.
Pray for Maslam Kotoko speakers to put their identity in the risen Christ rather than their ethnicity or religion.
Pray for a spiritual hunger that will drive the Maslam Kotoko people to embrace Jesus Christ.
Pray for them to become part of disciple making movements.
