The Baledha Lendu live mainly in Ituri province (Orientale region) of northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo. They speak Lendu, part of the Sudanic language family, and form a substantial indigenous cultural group in the Lake Albert region.
Lendu communities are family oriented, with extended kinship systems guiding social life and responsibilities. Agriculture, including cultivation of plantains, cassava, and peanuts, is central to daily life. Cultural practices, storytelling, traditional music, and shared festivals are woven into rites of passage, harvests, and seasonal observances.
A high percentage of the Lendus identify as Christian. However, traditional religion often competes with faith in Jesus Christ, the only one who can offer life to the full.
The Lendu people remain in great need of foundational gospel witness, Scripture accessibility in their heart language, and initial church communities. Translation efforts for portions of Scripture or the New Testament would be a major step forward. Spiritual breakthrough and training of local believers will be crucial for any discipleship movement.
Pray for the gospel to take root among the Lendu and for clear access to Scripture in Lendu.
Pray for discipleship and church-planting movements to flourish, leading to Christ-like families and churches.
Pray for local leaders willing to embrace and share Christ faithfully with others, no matter what ethnic group they are from.
Pray for peace and reconciliation in areas affected by conflict.
Pray for unity, hope, and tangible expressions of God's love among families.
