Introduction / History

The Kilba (also known as the Huba) live primarily in the northeastern Nigerian state of Adamawa. They belong to the Chadic people group. Though their primary language is Nya Huba, today many also speak Hausa or English (the official language of Nigeria). Oral tradition suggests that the Kilba migrated from the Middle East to West Africa. They now live in mountain villages and communities of Nigeria based on clans.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Kilba continue to be known for their agricultural abilities, particularly raising groundnuts. They are hardworking and generally friendly.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Kilba are a majority Christian group, but many are nominally Christian and/or practice Catholicism. Some continue to be involved in ethnoreligion – beliefs and practices connected to their cultural identity and traditions.

What Are Their Needs?

While the New Testament is available in Nya Huba, the complete Bible is not. The Kilba need a clear presentation of the gospel and an understanding of the truth that salvation is found in Christ alone.

Prayer Items

Pray that soon vibrant Kilba Christians will be discipling others and teaching Christ.
Pray for translators to provide a full and accurate Bible in Nya Huba.
Pray for a great awakening among the Kilba that will lead to a vibrant and contagious church planting movement.
