Introduction / History

The Kariya people of Nigeria’s Bauchi state have their own language by the same name. They have six prominent clans.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Most are farmers who grow cassava, millet, corn, beans and yams. In recent years more are going into professions such as medicine and journalism.

The Kariyas are fortunate and wise enough to avoid destructive squabbles with neighboring tribes. They have festivals which include the use of masks and dances.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Though most Kariya people are Muslim, there is a small Christian minority among them. All Kariya people struggle with falling back into their traditional Animistic religion.

What Are Their Needs?

The Kariya people struggle to have enough clean water for their crops and livestock.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Holy Spirit to move mightily among the Kariya people, drawing hundreds to Christ.
Pray for the Lord to send dreams and visions to Kariya elders, opening their hearts to the King of kings.
Pray for them to be released from demonic influences by the name of Jesus Christ.
Pray for a huge harvest this year as a testimony of God’s power and love.
