Introduction / History

There is a Guarani group that is defined by their dialect, Eastern Bolivian Guarani. They live mostly in the department of Boquerón and a small part in the department of San Pedro. They also live in Bolivia and Argentina.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Traditionally, they are dedicated to agriculture. Due to the long periods of drought, this is an activity with many limitations in the Chaco region, therefore many offer their labor in neighboring ranches and Mennonite colonies dedicated to livestock and food industry derived from it. They are also dedicated to wood carving and handicrafts.

They also developed their knowledge of botany for the treatment of different diseases, therapies as well as amulets to prevent bad luck that are still maintained in their tradition. The arete guasú or great true day (literal translation), is popularly known as a carnival celebration. However, this festivity is based on a myth that is the foundation of the different moments of the ceremony where the history of this people is recreated.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Eastern Bolivian Guarani blend Christianity with traditional indigenous beliefs. Most are officially Christian, and they have a significant Evangelical population.

What Are Their Needs?

The Eastern Bolivian Guarani need the spiritual hunger it takes to seek and find the Lord no matter what.
