The Makhuwa-Moniga people live only in Mozambique, a former Portuguese colony.
The Makhuwa-Moniga people are famous for their woodcarvings and clay pots. Women make these items along with capulanas, which are worn by women. Men make straw mats.
They have their own face painting that involves the use of a white cream produced from tree bark. This cream acts as a sunscreen.
The staple food for the Makhuwa-Moniga people is cassava. Their family structure is matrilineal, meaning it is traced through the mother’s side of the family.
The Portuguese colonizers brought the Roman Catholic religion to the Makhuwa-Moniga people. Their hearts are mainly drawn to their traditional African religion. This focuses their attention on the spirit world.
The Makhuwa-Moniga people need to put all their faith in Jesus Christ rather than ancient spirits worshipped by their ancestors.
Pray for a Holy Spirit-directed revival among the Makhuwa-Moniga that will bless them for eternity.
Pray for Makhuwa-Moniga Christian believers to take Christ to their families and villages.
Pray for Makhuwa-Moniga disciples to make more disciples.
