Introduction / History

The Burmeso people are fishermen, hunters, and sago horticulturalists. At an altitude of 150-600 meters above sea level the Burmeso people can best be accessed by boat up the Mamberamo River.

They are descendents of the Meop, Ehwaresti, Tasti, and Abiasit clans and intermarry with the Kwerba, Haya, Sikari, Eri, Dadat, and Seriwi peoples.

The Burmeso people eat fish and sago. The Burmeso people have no gospel cassette, film, or videos in their language.

The Burmeso are sometimes known as the Taurap, Boromeso, Borumesso, Burumeso, Monau, Monao, or even Manau people but they prefer to be called Burmeso. The Burmeso people of course, use the Burmeso language at home. The Burmeso language is part of the Taurap (Burmeso) language family.
