The Lua have lived in Chiang Mai in Thailand longer than other tribes. They speak a language related to Mon Khmer. They are a different people group than the Lawa.
Many of the Lua work in agriculture and live in villages. They eat dry mountain rice. They have a low standard of living and are very poor. A lack of reliable rain in their homeland has led to disappointing crop yields. They have health problems. About one-fifth of them can read and write so the gospel will need to be presented in oral form.
Most Lua are animists and Buddhists. They also hold to shamanistic practices. Many of the Lua have been turning to Christianity recently, and one can barely consider them an unreached people group.
The Lua people need better farming methods such as irrigation. They need medical clinics to help with their health needs. Ideally, the Lua people would have good schools where they learn the Thai language so they can fully participate in Thailand's economy.
Pray that they have good health and come away from poverty.
Pray for the Lord to show himself powerful and loving by providing them with an abundant crop this year.
Pray that the Lua Christians lead others among them to Jesus Christ, leading to a transforming movement to Christ.
