What Are Their Lives Like?

Their elders command much respect. Marriage is important in the Kineenawi culture, and it is usually arranged by the elders. They are deeply committed to their extended families.

Births and weddings call for celebrations; there is always plenty of music and dancing at these events. They have a strong oral tradition of poetry and storytelling.

Traditional, rural Kineenawi men wear long robes and the women wear colorful dresses. Those who live in urban settings usually wear western clothes.

Their staple foods include sorghum, millet and dates. Their evening meals often include stews, vegetables and flatbread. They love to drink tea.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Kineenawi people are Sunni Muslims. They believe in the tenets of Islam and celebrate Muslim holidays like Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

What Are Their Needs?

Like all the peoples of Sudan, the Kineenawi people need peace. Their entire country is being destroyed by infighting. Such a situation makes people open to new spiritual ideas, but it also makes it nearly impossible to reach people with the gospel.
