Brazil’s slave trade ran from 1550-1850, and it involved importing slaves from West Africa. Typically, White slave owners had children with their African slaves, producing what they called Mulatto, or “mixed race” people. There was a large number of immigrants from Portugal and Italy between 1870-1953. Some Italian men took on Black wives. We call their offspring Italo-Mulatto. Today there are more people with African blood in Brazil than any country other than Nigeria.
In modern Brazil, more people with African blood are identifying as “black” rather than “Mulatto.” This suggests a greater acceptance of having African heritage.
There is a large Roman Catholic influence among the Italo-Mulattos, but most practice traditional religion.
Italo-Mulattos need acceptance from others and themselves.
Pray for Italo-Mulatto people who love the Lord to disciple others in his ways.
Pray for these disciples to live holy lives that draw others to the Throne of Grace.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move in Italo-Mulatto families, leading them to understand their dignity and self-worth comes from their relationship with Jesus Christ.
