Introduction / History

The Baliwon are a subgroup of the larger Ga'dang people of the Philippines. They live in the northern part of the northern island of Luzon.

Much of their history is spotty. Their early history was described by military conquerors either from Spain or the United States. The Ga'dang people fought against the Spanish, the Americans and the Japanese before the Philippines gained their independence in 1946.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Baliwon Ga'dang enjoy folklore about supernatural events, witchcraft and ghosts. They also enjoy riddles, puns, stories and songs.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Though there is some Christian influence from both Catholic and Protestant strains of Christianity, most remain dedicated to their ethnic religions. That is especially true for those who live in the mountains. Those who are in the lowlands are more likely to be Christian.

What Are Their Needs?

The Baliwon Ga'dang need to see beyond the shortcomings of colonialists so they can embrace Jesus Christ, who is far above all nations and empires.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Baliwon Ga'dang people to find their way to the cross and the empty grave. May they find peace and hope in Christ.

Pray for Baliwon Ga'dang disciples to make more disciples who will love and obey the King of kings.

Pray for the Lord to bless the Baliwon Ga'dang people economically and spiritually.
