Many Nisa people farm (tubers, greens, and sago) or fish for a living. Living at an altitude of 100-200 meters above sea level, the Nisa people can best be accessed by boat. Travel from Marikai to the Nisa area consists of a 5-6 hour boat trip.
The main diet of the Nisa people is sago and fish. Currently there are no good airstrip possibilities in the area. The Nisa people have no gospel cassettes, films, or videos in their language.
The Nisa are sometimes known as the Bonefa or Kerema people. The Nisa language is part of the East Geelvink Bay language.
