During colonial days, Costa Rica was the southernmost province of the Captaincy General of Guatemala. It was remote from Guatemala City, and there were few indigenous people to use as cheap labor. Instead of huge haciendas with huge teams of Amerindian laborers, Costa Rica developed a pattern of family-run farms. At the time, Costa Rica was poor because of it, but it also proved to be a source of strength. Though they developed an economy based on exporting coffee and bananas, when Costa Rica became an independent nation, they eventually diversified into producing electronic goods, medical instruments, and pharmaceuticals. Today they have one of the strongest economies in Latin America. Costa Rica also has a more stable and democratic government than most in Latin America, so they are not desperate to leave.
Even then, some need to find work in other countries. The Costa Rican emigration started in the 2010s, and it s a small number of people. Most Costa Ricans live in Costa Rica, but they also have diaspora populations in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Spain.
The Costa Rican diaspora in Spain is looking for work opportunities and higher wages. That puts their home country in a dilemma. They need a well-educated population with professional skills to develop Costa Rica, but they also need the funds sent from their diaspora in Spain. The amount of money coming in is insufficient to meet their needs. Few work abroad for this reason. Moving out of the country is a relatively new concept for Costa Ricans, so they are beginning to establish social and professional networks such as Costa Rican Abroad Talent.
Costa Ricans in Spain are usually Roman Catholic or Evangelical. God can use them to reach the host nation for Christ.
Costa Rican churches and individuals need to submit to the Holy Spirit so they can experience his blessings and obligations.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to bless Costa Ricans in Spain with revival fire, leading to a desire to obey Christ in every way.
Pray for Costa Ricans to win, equip, and disciple people from less Christianized populations in Spain.
Pray for the Lord to bless them abundantly with healthy families and marriages as a demonstration of what the Lord can do for those who follow his ways.
