Laki in Iran

Laki in Iran

The Kurdish Laki people of Iran live in the western part of the country. They speak Laki, which most linguists believe is one of the Kurdish languages. The Laki are semi-nomadic animal herders and farmers. Today many live in permanent houses and grow grain, fruits, nuts and vegetables. Up until 1979 and the Islamic Revolution, opium was their cash crop. Some Laki have moved to Iranian cities and are fully engaged in modern society.

Ministry Obstacles

Evangelism is illegal in Iran. The Laki follow a mystical religion called Ahl-E-Haqq and Shia Islam. Islam is deeply ingrained in their culture.

Outreach Ideas

Radio programs in Laki can bring the gospel to this people. Since most of the Laki know Farsi, they can listen to TV and radio programs in Farsi can reach them.

Scripture Focus

"Declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’"  Isaiah 46:10

Scripture Prayer

Thank the Lord that He alone can tell the future, and His plans for today’s people group can never be stopped.

Prayer Focus

There are few or no known followers of Christ among the Laki people in Iran. Pray that the Laki believers who will soon come to the Lord would be established in the faith and share the good news with family and friends. Pray that the Lord would raise up many disciples among the Laki in this decade. Pray that Bible would be translated into Laki and these Bibles would make it to the Laki people.
