Bhurtia in India
The Bhurtia derive their community name from the term "bhul," because they believe that God ordained them to pursue the occupation of buffalo grazing. They often use Singh as their surname. Their family deities are Dulhadeo, Sitala Devi, Thakur Baba, and Panch Piria; village deities are DSh and Garbara Devi, and their regional deity is Bindyabasim Devi. Their sacred specialists are a priest and a sorcerer. Child marriage and bride price are prevalent practices.
