Lao Lom in Thailand

The Lao Lom are a people who have only been identified as a distinct group since 2001. Though they have different names based on location, the Lao Lom communities share a common historical link and ethnolinguistic heritage. The elderly of the Lao Lom recall their traditional colorful dress adorned with silver jewelry around their arms, ankles, and waist. The north-eastern region of Thailand offers the Lao Lom some of the most exotic food in the world supplying snakes, rats, insects, and fish. They also raise animals such as water buffaloes, ducks, chickens, and pigs for consumption.

Ministry Obstacles
As Buddhists, the Lao Lom believe in a complicated array of spirits. Several times each year the community must make offerings and prayers to the guardian spirits of the village in hopes of wealth and prosperity. Otherwise, they believe the offended spirit would bring disaster. This mindset of fear keeps them from considering that Christ has more power than these familiar spirits.

Pray that the minds of this people group will be opened to understand God’s word by the Spirit Himself.

Prayer Focus
Pray for the authority of Christ to bind hindering spiritual forces to lead them from darkness to light. Pray for signs and wonders among them and for great breakthroughs with a rapid multiplication of disciples and house churches. Pray for bold workers who are driven by the love of the Holy Spirit to go to them. Pray for God to send language workers so that the Lao Lom may hear and believe in Christ's saving power.
