Tamboli (Muslim traditions) in Bangladesh

The Tamboli derive their name from the Sanskrit term for betel leaves. Tambul or betel leaf packing is the primary source of their income. Many Tamboli work as small business traders and hardware shop owners because of their higher or “clean” caste status.

Ministry Obstacles
The Tamboli believe there is one god, Allah, whose will is revealed through the prophet Mohammed. They must recite prayers several times each day and follow a strict regimen of works to please their distant and impersonal god. This belief system has created a barrier to the truth of the gospel that only Almighty God can transcend.

"Jesus said to them, Is this not the reason you are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God?"  Mark 12:24

Scripture Prayer
Pray that this people group hungers for and learns the Scriptures. Pray that these people begin to experience the miraculous power of God.

Prayer Focus
Pray that the betel leaf and areca nut industry would be penetrated with the gospel so that many Tamboli, whether Muslims or Hindus, will know the God who gives abundant life. Pray that the Holy Spirit would give the opportunity for the JESUS Film to be shown to the Tamboli and that they would have hearts open to the Savior. The entire Bible has been translated into Bengali, the spoken language of the Tamboli in Bangladesh. Audio and visual resources also exist. Pray for someone to take these resources to the Tamboli.
