Tomini in Indonesia
The Tomini marriage system follows Islamic guidelines. An intermediary communicates with the bride's parents and plans the marriage based on the girl's social status. Marriage is allowed between first cousins, and polygamy, although permitted, rarely happens. The couple usually stays with one of their families until the first child is born. In their homeland in Sulawesi, cloves were successfully introduced in large plantations, and national and international lumber firms have established themselves throughout the area. However, their production has dramatically decreased in recent years.
Ministry Obstacles
There may be no Christ followers among the Tomini. It will be a challenge to get a movement to Christ started among a people who have never heard the gospel and have seldom met someone who follows the Lord.
