San Chay in Vietnam

The rural San Chay practice stringent morality codes. Women must observe strict customs. Whenever a woman encounters a man socially superior to her husband, she must hide behind bamboo. The San Chay reside in both Vietnam and China. In China, they are known as the Cao Lan. They are officially considered part of the Zhuang nationality in China. They speak a distinct language and possess their own set of customs and traditions. Spirit worship is essential to the San Chay worldview. Each branch of the nationality worships a different spirit, such as the spirit of the river, the trees, the crops, and others. Elaborate festivals include the playing of castanets, copper bells, drums, cymbals, and wind instruments.

Ministry Obstacles
Very few have had any exposure to the Christian message, and the name of Christ remains largely unknown. Northern Vietnam and southern China have been communist strongholds for three generations. No Christian ministries are known to be focusing on them.

Pray for the San Chay to submit to Jesus Christ, so they can experience the abundant life he offers in John 10:10. Pray for the Lord to intervene in their families, calling people to his side. Pray for loving, bold workers. Pray for their hearts to be drawn to the Lord of Lords. Pray for a thriving church planting movement in their communities.
