Patwa (Hindu traditions) in India

The Patwa community, traditionally associated with weaving and cloth-making, resides primarily in northern India. They maintain a strong sense of cultural identity through clans (gotras) and lineages, which regulate marriage alliances and trace ancestry. Patwa marriages are typically arranged within the community, with rituals performed by Brahmin priests according to Vedic traditions. Their Hindu beliefs are expressed through traditional worship, festivals, and ceremonies like the "Kuanpuja," a water-fetching ritual performed by mothers after childbirth.

Ministry Obstacles
The Patwa live in a region of India that has been historically resistant to the gospel. Strong social cohesion and religious traditions, such as child marriage and folk Hindu practices, create spiritual and cultural barriers to change. The lack of a known Christian presence or discipleship efforts makes outreach especially challenging.

Pray that the Spirit leads this people group to hope in Christ and that He becomes the trustworthy anchor of their souls.

Prayer Focus
Pray for a spiritual breakthrough among the Patwa. Ask God to raise up laborers who are equipped and anointed to share the gospel in culturally sensitive ways. Pray for the emergence of Patwa believers who will boldly follow Christ and lead others despite social pressure. Lift up the need for sustained, focused prayer for the Patwa and surrounding communities, and for the birth of a strong, multiplying church planting movement among them.
