Introduction / History

The Mirisia Zuruk people group live in 10 main villages in the remote Nuba Mountains in the state of South Kordofan, Sudan. They speak Sudanese Arabic. Some remain nomadic, but these people are being forced to settle.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They farm sorghum, corn, beans and groundnuts. They also raise cattle, sheep and goats.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Mirisia Zuruk are entirely Muslim. They depend on Allah for salvation, but in their daily lives they put their faith in the spirit world.

What Are Their Needs?

The Mirisia Zuruk people have one primary school which is not enough for their needs. They are having troubles adjusting to sedentary lives. Their livestock, which is their livelihood, is suffering for lack of food and water.
