The ancestors of the Wardei people were Cushites. In more recent generations, the Somalis enslaved some of the Orma people who eventually lost their language and culture. The children of these Orma people formed a new tribe called the Wardei. They live in Garissa and Tana River County in Kenya.
The Wardei are nomadic pastoralists they keep goats, cows and camels. Their houses are huts that can be moved and packed on a camel or donkey. They have begun to settle down in recent years.
The Wardei are predominantly Muslim.
The Wardei people need to put all their sense of worth and their identity in Jesus Christ, not their past. They are valuable to the Lord simply because they are created in his image. They have a purpose, given by the King of kings.
Pray for a movement to Christ based on discipleship and spiritual growth.
Pray for the Lord to give dreams of the risen, victorious Christ to Wardei family leaders.
Pray for loving and dedicated workers to soon go to them.
