Introduction / History

The Burusho of Pakistan live in Hunza and Nagir in the mountainous region. They speak Burushaski.

The villages of the Burusho are hundreds of feet above the Hunza River. Travel is by narrow road. Travelling could be an obstacle to the gospel.

The Burusho work in agriculture. They are involved in livestock production for food and drink. They grow crops such as potatoes and carrots.

The main clans of the Burusho live in the city of Baltit. Marriages take place once a year, usually in December. Divorce is allowed only to men and then only on the grounds of adultery. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property with the oldest son usually receiving the best land.

The leader of the Burusho is called the Mir and his authority is final. They are Muslims by religion and have been so for many years.

Prayer Points

* Pray that the Mir becomes Christian and leads others of the Burusho to Jesus Christ
* Pray that as the Burusho read the Koran they will want to learn more about Jesus Christ, read the Bible and give their lives to Him.
