Introduction / History

They were traditionally salt traders. The ruins of an ancient fortress overlooking their village is witness to the time when Tangbe was on a major salt trade route between Tibet and India.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Only 32 households exist in the Tangbe village which is part of a 12-village group. They are mostly farmers today. In addition to their primary language, Tangbe, they also speak their own unique language "Serke", meaning the golden language. They enjoy their own unique dress and ornaments, and their traditional cultural songs and dances during their festivals.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Tangbe people practice Buddhism, a religion that teaches that they must follow many rules and laws to achieve nirvana or a state of freedom and salvation. They also practice their own cultural beliefs and superstitions based on fear and domination from the spirit world. These evil spirits must be appeased through prayers, sacrifices and rituals.

What Are Their Needs?

Written, audio, and visual Bible resources exist in the Nepali language which they speak, however Tangbe people have not yet been influenced by them. Who will take these resources to them? These are remote people with practical needs. Life can be difficult in Nepal's mountains, and these people have adapted well; however, there is much opportunity to help them improve their lives, especially spiritually.

Prayer Points

Pray for disciples who are filled with the power and fruit of the Holy Spirit to go to Tangbe people in Nepal. Pray that the community council will be open to hearing about Christ and allowing their lives and communities to be transformed. Pray that there will be a community-wide movement to Lord Jesus as families embrace Jesus together.
