More than four thousand South Asian refugees came to Denmark from East Africa in the early 1970s.
Later many Sri Lankan Tamils came. When the first of them came seeking asylum in Denmark, they received support from the Danish government. The later ones who came were mainly single young men. Most leaving Sri Lanka for Denmark already had Tamil contacts. The newcomers when arriving become close to these contacts. The Tamils tend to keep to their own communities. The number of Indians living in Denmark is on the rise. They speak Urdu, Punjabi and Danish. Many live in Copenhagen and in Ishoj nearby.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Today most South Asian men work in the product and service sections.
Pakistanis in Denmark continued to grow in numbers. They get involved in politics more than other immigrant groups. The imam of a mosque is Pakistani and there are some Urdu language magazines.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most Pakistanis living in Denmark are Muslims and there are many Muslim schools.

What Are Their Needs?

Denmark is a secularized country. South Asians are unlikely to hear the gospel unless someone makes a point of telling them.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to thrust out loving workers to the South Asians in Denmark.
Pray for South Asian evangelists, pastors and disciplers to tend to spiritual needs in the Netherlands.
Pray for South Asians to have the spiritual hunger it takes to seek and find the Lord no matter what.
