Introduction / History

The caste system, which affects both Hindu and Muslim communities in India, cooks are often trusted and appreciated by others. The Muslim Waza people are a good example of this.

Where Are they Located?

The Muslim Waza people live in Jammu and Kashmir, India's far northern state.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Waza name means "cook." That is what they do; they are expert chefs, and they are hired by both Hindu and Muslim communities to cook for big occasions. Because they provide an essential service to both Hindus and Muslims, they have good relations in both communities.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Waza people are Sunni Muslims.

What Are Their Needs?

The Wazas have definitely found their niche in society, but they have not yet heard about the one who came to elevate them to an exalted status as beloved children of God and members of His kingdom.

Prayer Points

Pray for a Holy Spirit infiltration into Waza communities so that they can experience God's love and His tender guidance.
May they use their God-given talent as cooks to glorify the king of Kings.
Pray for a movement of Waza households to study the Bible and accept the blessings of Christ.
