Introduction / History

The Syalgir live in West Bengal. Hinduism is their religion. They speak, read and write in Bengali. They are not vegetarians who eat fish and eggs and rice.

The Syalgir allow the bereaved and the divorced to marry again. The dead are cremated. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property with the oldest son becoming in charge of the home. The women help with financial matters.

The Syalgir sell vegetables and fish at local markets. Some of them work as agricultural laborers. They have a council to look after them. Their educational level is low so the gospel will need to be given in oral form too. They use modern medicines.

Prayer Points

Pray that the council leaders come to Jesus Christ and lead others to Him.
Pray that gospel recordings lead them to salvation.
