Introduction / History

The Nagarchi have a number of clans and use community or clan names as their surnames. The Nagarchi live mainly in India but also in Bangladesh.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Many are employed in some aspect of farming, and some collect firewood in nearby forests and sell it locally. They marry only within their own people group. Marriage rituals include circling the sacred pole seven times. All the sons get an equal share of the property after the death of their father. They play the drum on a hired basis during birth and marriage rituals.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The worldview of Hinduism is very different than that of biblical Christianity. There is much flexibility in Hinduism that you won't find in Christianity where the Bible is the guide. Most Hindus devote themselves to whatever gods they believe will provide for their needs. This carries a heavy spiritual price.

What Are Their Needs?

Christ followers in South Asia can carry the good news about Jesus to the Nagarchi people in Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, and Nepal. Please pray for these Christians.

Prayer Points

Please pray the several hundred Nagarchis in India who have identified themselves as Christians will learn to live holy lives, "craving pure spiritual milk, so that by it they may grow up in their salvation, now that they have tasted the Lord is good." Pray for a growing hunger to find and know this God among non-believing Nagarchi people in Bangladesh. Pray for Holy Spirit sent workers to go to them.
