The word Teli is derived from a Sanskrit word meaning "oil pressed from seeds." They are a community that presses mustard or sesame oil. In India, they can be Hindu or Muslims. Among the Muslims, they are also known as "Shaikh Mansuri."
Some are landless farmers.
It is very difficult for Muslims to listen to someone who tells them that Jesus Christ is essential for salvation. They have been taught their entire lives that the way to please God is through obedience to the teachings of Mohammed.
This community places great importance on oil. Therefore, since the Bible identifies oil as a symbol of the Spirit of God, it could be helpful in creating a connection between the Holy Spirit and their daily lives.
There are probably no Christ followers among the Muslim Teli. Pray for church planters and disciplers to reach out to this community.
Pray for the Lord to thrust out loving workers who will not stop until Teli Muslim leaders have heard of the saving power of Christ.
Pray for a spiritual hunger and a desire for the "oil" of the Holy Spirit to guide their families and communities.
