Mannans probably migrated to the forests of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Mannans who were settled down in one particular forest were evacuated by forest departments. Some forests are safe havens where they live among sandalwood and rose wood trees.
These tribals were allowed to cut down forest land and establish farms for five years. They grow plantain, tapioca, cashews and corn. Due to the threat of rats, they seldom grow tapioca. Most likely they will return to the forests at some time.
On every annual celebration they gather in one particular village. Their king attends the annual celebration that is marked with many cultural events and celebrations.
When girls reach age 13 years they are separated from their families and confined in large tents known as sathram (inn). Elderly women look after these inns. They are supposed to stay there till they are married. Inside the tent there are provisions for a fire. Day and night the fire burns in the center of the hall. Around the fire they sleep on mats. In some inns there are platforms made up of bamboo for them to sit.
There is a separate satrhram (inn) for young men who are 20 years old. Elderly men look after them.
When the time is right a girl hides in the forest, and would-be bridegrooms leave their inn and looks for her. She will sprinkle the one who finds her first with turmeric water as a sign that they ought to marry.
Mannans worship hill gods. Hill gods are the spirits of their forefathers who ascended the mountains. But of late, owing to outside contact they have begun to worship other gods.
Like all other peoples of the world, this people group needs the blessings and guidance that only Jesus Christ can offer.
Ask God to raise up Mannan people who are more desirous to know the truth than to stay on the broad road to death.
Ask God to send loving, committed workers to the Mannan people in the near future.
Pray the Mannan would no longer be hidden away from the influence of Christ.
Pray for many to have dreams of visions that will lead them to the cross.
