The Mallah are the traditional boatmen caste and ethnic group of North India, East India, and Pakistan. The word mallaah is said to come from an Arabic word which means navigation on the sea or in the air. They are related to the Kewat community, who form the bulk of the boatmen class of North India. In Pakistan, many have seen their traditional areas of habitation washed away by the sea. An important subsidiary occupation is animal husbandry, with the Mallaah raising cattle. The Mallaah community consists of a number of clans, referred to as nukh, the largest Mallaah nukh being the Dablo.
Spiritual opposition to the Gospel of Jesus Christ may be the biggest barrier to its life-giving message in Pakistan.
Pray that, as is happening among several Muslims, the Mallah may experience dreams and visions of Jesus. Pray that God's people will encounter the Mallah and explain more fully who the man in their dreams is.
None of the Mallah community have reported themselves as Christians to the census in either Pakistan, India, or Bangladesh. Please pray for any secret believers to find each other for the purpose of mutual encouragement and instruction.
Please pray the Mallah people will be able to provide good education for their children, and will be able to make necessary adjustments to a rapidly changing world.
