Introduction / History

The Mer are a Scheduled Caste. They are concentrated in the Hadoti Region of Rajasthan though they also live in other parts of that northwestern states. They speak Hindi. The Mer have several clans.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Some of them own land. They work in farming and the women help as farm laborers. They have their own water wells. They have a low education level so the gospel will need to be given in oral form. Mer have what anthropologists call a "joking relationship" with the younger siblings of the opposite sex. They must be serious and behave themselves with the older sibling of their own gender. And if their mother in law shows up, they will probably leave the room out of deference.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Mer are Hindus and have their own festivals.

What Are Their Needs?

The Mer people need to experience the love and protection of God the Father.

Prayer Points

Pray that Indian believers will lead the Mer people into a disciple making movement. Pray that gospel recordings and the JESUS Film will lead them to put their faith in him alone. Pray for intercessors and workers to go to the Mer people. Pray for a spiritual hunger that will lead them to the blessings of Jesus.
