Introduction / History

The Makhmi tribe is not very well known or understood. They are considered to be Muslim in a land where Islam, Hinduism, and even Buddhism are nearby.

The Makhmi people live in the northern part of Jammu and Kashmir. Some live on the Indian side of the border, but most are on Pakistan's side of the line.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Jammu and Kashmir is a very difficult part of the world where armies of India and Pakistan are usually on the brink of war. For this reason the Makhmi people live with the presence of military forces all around them. They do their best to grow enough food in Jammu and Kashmir's harsh climate. The Makhmis have learned how to survive off of milk from their livestock and the crops that they can grow.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Makhmi people believe that Allah, the supreme God, spoke directly to Mohammed, their prophet, showing them the way to live. Their lives are full of dos and don'ts that affect them from the time they wake up till they go to bed.

What Are Their Needs?

The Makhmi people live in a part of India that often experiences violence. They need protection.

Prayer Points

Pray that this will be the decade where there is an unstoppable movement to Christ in their community.
Pray for the Makhmi community to be blessed in every way by Almighty God.
Pray for Makhmi decision-makers to have a Holy Spirit-led hunger for spiritual truth that only Jesus Christ can satisfy.
Pray For workers to take Christ to the Makhmi people no matter what the cost may be.
