Introduction / History

The Maghaiya live in Odisha, Bihar and West Bengal. Their main language is Hindi, but some also speak either Odia or Bengali.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Maghaiya work in agriculture and in selling pottery. Most of them are landless. They are not well educated so the gospel will need to be presented in oral forms. They have a traditional council to look after their needs. Widowers and the divorced can marry again. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property with the oldest son becoming the new family head.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Maghaiya people are Hindus who also follow their own local religion.

What Are Their Needs?

The Maghaiya needs to experience the abundant life that only Jesus Christ can offer their community.

Prayer Points

Pray that the traditional councils will come to Jesus and lead their community to be discipled in the ways of Christ. Pray that gospel recordings and the JESUS Film will help them to start Discovery Bible Studies. Pray for intercessors and missionaries to go to them.
