Introduction / History

The Kudavakkal are a subgroup of the greater Nambudiri Brahman community, one of India’s most influential communities. They live in Kerala, a state in India’s southwest.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Kudavakkal Brahmans are experts in Hindu Vedic rituals. They often serve as priest throughout Kerala. Their customs are different than other Brahman subgroups.

What Are Their Beliefs?

As Brahmans, the Kudavakkals are committed to the Hindu religious system. Their knowledge of the Hindu Vedda scriptures set them apart. They are likely to devote themselves to one god, not a multitude of them like lower caste Hindus.

What Are Their Needs?

The Kudavakkal community needs better employment opportunities. They are relying on serving in Hindu temples, but there are fewer who can do this their entire lives. They are trying to preserve their culture and heritage.

Prayer Points

Pray for a movement of Jesus to heal and strengthen Kudavakkal communities.

Pray for the Kudavakkal people to understand and embrace that Jesus wants to bless their families and neighborhoods.

Pray for Holy Spirit anointed believers from the Kudavakkal people to change their society from within.

Pray for a movement in which the Holy Spirit leads and empowers disciples to make more disciples.
