Introduction / History

The Khatbe of India live in Bihar. Many of them live in the Darbhanga and Madhubani regions. They speak Maithili and Hindi and read and write in Devanagari. Most are not vegetarians and they eat maize, rice and wheat as cereals.

Marriage is by discussion. They believe in monogamy. Divorce is not allowed but the bereaved can marry again. Sons inherit the property on the death of the father with the oldest son becoming in charge of the home. There are marriage rituals and the dead are cremated.

The Khatbe are mostly agricultural laborers. Hinduism is their religion. They make use of education, health and other benefit plans too.

Prayer Points

* Pray that Indian Christians will help lead the Khatbe to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that gospel materials will lead them to salvation.
